About etc.tech and Project Phoenix.

01. Who or what is etc.tech?

etc.tech is the infamous company that you never needed to know about. The company is manned by Shauna Solaman. You can read more about the "company" at etc.tech.

02. How did this project come about?

There are many issues (also called humans) that could be framed as culprits for this one however I would personally blame my pirate tendencies. Or that unbridled creativity in me that likes to see how well others work with one another without actually having to work with one another. Plus, it is a year overdue.

03. What is this project really about?

This project is challenging yourself to come up with something new when presenting with new work. It is about working with others and drawing inspiration from one another. In a sense it is a collaborative effort and yet all the while not.

04. How do I submit my work?

You send it to Captain Black Charity Eneat (Aleisha Tannen) at etc.project[at]gmail[dot]com, with your name and company if applicable. You do not have to address it to her nor send sacrifices.

05. How long will this project be running?

Projected time before it stabilizes will be three months. I know that does not answer the question however the basic answer is that as long as the website is up and running (barring any unexpected downtime) the project will remain functional.

06. When was this project officially launched?

The project itself was launched on June 14th, 2007 and the web site was officially released on June 25th, 2007.

07. Who can I contact and how?

You can shoot an email over to etc.project[at]gmail[dot]com or send an instant message (AIM/AOL) to blue observatory.

Information for participants.

08. What do you mean by your company? Does this mean the company I am currently working with?

By company I mean by artist or writer affiliation, if you want to be associated with such. You do not need to provide a company (that deals with art or something similar) however for the people who own companies, this would an outlet.

09. What exactly is expected of me?

You are expected, should you hasten and accept the call, to send in artwork whenever you feel like it. This is not about you performing on demand or whatever else one could mistake it to be. No, this is about challenging yourself creatively. You send in whatever you consider art (as long as it is your own work) when you feel like it. That's it. Honest.

10. What are the "challenges?"

The challenges are special little things that you can do for yourself. You can read more about it at this post.

11. Can I send old work in?

Sure, especially during the beginning though it would be nice that as the project progresses that you send in work that draws inspiration from others.

12. How are the numbers assigned?

You choose which number you want of the available numbers. Do not be concerned if the site has seemed to run out of them because they can always easily be generated.

13. Will there be a resource list or do I have to provide one?

Each artist will be asked to send their own list of resources that will be listed on their own page if applicable.

14. I have no access to the internet but I want to contribute. How can I?

You can access a public computer with an internet connection. Just kidding. If you are a writer or your medium has to do with the sort, such as you want to contribute an interview, poem, quote, etc. then you can ask someone else to send it in, if not myself.

15. I want to sing. (Or dance or whatever else that falls in this realm).

If it can be recorded and distributed via the Internet then you can send that in as well. Same rules apply though, I will need your name and anyone else involved.

16. Will there be an inspiration niche (a place that we can get ideas that we can contribute that are not necessarily works by the participants)?

It really depends on just how many people decide to join. For the time being a small one is being created over at Plum (check out the "Reconfiguration" tab).

17. How do I know you received my work?

Usually I confirm receiving your work if it is the first time, especially in order to make sure your name is correct and what number you want is correct. After that the work you send should go up within 48 hours unless something has happened. If you think it got lost, email or message me.

Reiteration.

18. Are you asking other people for images or pieces of art or quotes so that you can make a collage of them?

No, everyone's work will be listed under their name (and company name, if applicable) separately. If you send one image than only that image will appear separately under your name and if you send more, you will see a collage of your work. The idea is not for everyone to fill their page but rather to draw inspiration from one another; to spur creativity.

19. So is it my work or your work?

Your work.

20. Was I selected or did I just get sucked into this by accident?

The universe wanted you to participate, so work that out with yourself.

21. Wait, I m confused, what is the name of this project?

Project Code: Red Moon; Project Phoenix; Artist s Playground or Design Styles. No project is complete without at least two names.

22. Compensation?

It's volunteer work. So you get to feel good and gain experience and inspiration.

23. What was that piece of writing about on the front page?

That piece was called "Conversational sekhmet influenza breakdown." by Leah Khan which was written a few days before the launch of the project. I found it befitting.

24. What are all the blogs and links attributed to this project?

etc.tech is the company behind this and The Observationist is the company's blog. You are here at Project Phoenix and the blog is ((phnx)). One more link and that is ((phnx))'s photowalk blog.

Site Specifications.

25. What is the screen resolution for this site?

The site was built on 1280 by 800 screen and has survived a 1024 by 768 screen all of which were at 32 bit.

26. Why are the images so dark?

If the dark seems extremely dark or the images appear to "bleed" then it is probably your computer because the site was tested for cross compatibility and only appeared so when the resolution was much darker.

27. What is the best way to view the site?

Mozilla Firefox! That's it really.

28. Why are some of the images so large?

In efforts to keep the artist's intent, I only resize images that are beyond 1000 pixels by 1000 pixels (though widescreen are the exceptions) keeping everything in proportion. Some will still remain large but that is done in their best interest.
